February!

Ah, it seems that my new year's resolution has slipped a bit....

Recap of past weeks:

Still weeding in the YA Fiction and am up to the M's (as in books written by authors with last names starting with "M")!  I have noticed that many of the books that have had no use in the past 3 years generally have dated covers and/or covers that are more "juvenile" in appearance.  All still great books, but the visual appeal means a lot.

Last week I finished up our last day of a Makerspace Elective we were doing at PCCS (Pocatello Community Charter School).  This was the 2nd of two such electives and we explored topics such as paper circuits, engineering, and 3D printing.  Each session has had 20 students divided into two groups of 10 and we've been meeting on the Maker Bus at the school.
The kids have thoroughly enjoyed learning with us and the bus has been a great way to take Makerspace into the community.

Three weeks ago, I discovered that when the propane tank (that I didn't know it had) is empty, the heater won't run. I had just assumed that the generator ran both the lights and  the heat. It was a cold day on the bus- I don't think we got warmer than 40 degrees....brrrrrrr!

Every Monday at 4:00pm I meet with TAG (Teen Advisory Group).  This group consists of youth who help me plan programming and other things for the teens.  Our group can be a small as 2 or as large as 8 depending on school activities and other things going on in their lives.  So it takes a bit of patience to plan things such as our Summer Reading Program, but we're getting there.

Additionally we have had a creative writing group called LTT (Literally Talented Teens).  This group has dwindled as of late, but I'm open to having students come and share their writing on alternate Mondays at 4:00pm.  If nobody is prepared to share anything, we just meet as TAG.
The official schedule is:
                                            February 1   TAG
                                            February 8    LTT
                                            February 15  TAG
                                            February 22  LTT
                                            February 29  TAG

Nuff sed,
Kath Ann
